The Mini runs on Starlink’s Roam plans: Roam 100GB at $55/mo, Roam 300GB at $80/mo, or Roam Unlimited at $175/mo.
Those are Starlink’s US list prices before tax, checked Nov 4, 2026. Starlink says Residential plans don’t support the Mini outside a few limited regions. By our rule of thumb, most weekend campers and road-trippers fit Roam 100GB. Full-timers who stream or work online need 300GB. Heavy users and boaters who go offshore need Unlimited. You can switch between them any time.
Which Roam plans work with the Starlink Mini?
All three. On Starlink’s US Roam list, read Nov 4, 2026, Roam 100GB is $55/mo, Roam 300GB $80/mo and Roam Unlimited $175/mo, before tax. Each runs the same Mini at the same expected speeds; they differ in monthly high-speed data, coastal and offshore use, and travel abroad. Residential home plans don’t support the Mini outside a few limited regions, per Starlink.
| Plan | Per month | High-speed data | After the cap | Coast & Ocean Mode | Abroad |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Roam 100GB | $55/mo | 100 GB a billing cycle, no rollover | About 500 Kbps down and up | Coastal waters 5 days in a row, or 60 days in total in any 12 months. No Ocean Mode | Home country only |
| Roam 300GB | $80/mo | 300 GB a billing cycle, no rollover | About 500 Kbps down and up | Same coastal limit. No Ocean Mode | Home country only |
| Roam Unlimited | $175/mo | Unlimited | No cap | Same coastal limit, or Ocean Mode at $6/GB | Up to 30 days in a row, after travel registration |
The low-speed fallback is real but thin. At about 500 Kbps, email, texts and calls work. Streaming, big downloads and video calls don’t, so a cap you hit on day 20 of a month on BLM land in Utah is a long ten days.
Which plan fits your trips?
Starlink describes Roam 100GB as about one week of typical use, for occasional trips, camping and getaways. Our rule of thumb for data on the road is about 1 GB a day for light use, 6 for a couple of hours of streaming, 9 for a workday online and 14 for work plus evening video. At that last rate, 100 GB lasts 7 days, about Starlink’s week. Streaming gets you 16 days. Light use would take 100 days to burn through it, longer than a billing cycle.
Here is what our plan picker suggests for each mix. It keeps a 15% cushion under each cap so one heavy week doesn’t drop you to slow data.
| Data use (our rule of thumb) | A few weekends 5 days a month | Most weekends 12 days a month | Full-time on the road 26 days a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | Roam 100GB about 5 GB a month | Roam 100GB about 12 GB a month | Roam 100GB about 26 GB a month |
| Streaming | Roam 100GB about 30 GB a month | Roam 100GB about 72 GB a month | Roam 300GB about 156 GB a month |
| Work & video calls | Roam 100GB about 45 GB a month | Roam 300GB about 108 GB a month | Roam 300GB about 234 GB a month |
| Work + streaming | Roam 100GB about 70 GB a month | Roam 300GB about 168 GB a month | Roam Unlimited about 364 GB a month |
How much does each Mini plan cost over a year?
From $709 to $2,149 on starlink.com if Starlink’s $100 referral credit posts, or $809 to $2,249 without it (our arithmetic from the US Roam list read Nov 4, 2026, before tax). That is the $149 kit plus twelve monthly bills. The plan outweighs the kit over a year, so picking the right tier matters more than the kit price. The credit sits on the service bills from the second invoice, per Starlink’s terms.
Financing the kit instead adds $12.41/mo for 12 months on top of the plan, as long as you stay subscribed all 12 months (details).

Can you switch Roam plans between trips?
You can switch between Roam plans at any time: an upgrade can start right away or at the end of the billing cycle, and a downgrade taken immediately isn't refunded for the rest of the cycle. Start on the plan our picker suggests, then watch the data meter in the Starlink app. Moving up for a two-week trip down the Gulf Coast and back down after is normal use of the plan. A downgrade mid-cycle wastes what’s left of the bigger plan, so time it for the end of the cycle.
What is Standby Mode?
Roam plans can be paused with Standby Mode, which gives unlimited low-speed data up to 500 Kbps for a small monthly fee; Standby isn't meant for in-motion use and doesn't count toward the referral. Starlink doesn’t publish the fee beyond “a small monthly fee”. RV Mobile Internet reported on May 16, 2026 that it rose to $10/mo; that’s a press report, so check the amount in your account.
Standby is built for months when the Mini sits in a closet, like winter for a summer camper. It’s low-speed data only, so it’s not a cheap way to stream. If you expect the Mini to spend most of the year paused, it isn’t a good fit for a referral at all.
Can you use the Mini while moving?
Every Roam plan allows in-motion use up to 100 mph in the markets Starlink approves, and the United States is on Starlink's list of approved in-motion markets. The Mini is on Starlink’s list of in-motion hardware. The catch is the mount: for in-motion use Starlink requires the kit to be mounted firmly on a structurally sound, horizontal surface with a mount designed for in-motion use, such as the Mini Mobility Mount. A Mini propped on the dash on I-80 across Nevada doesn’t meet that. In-motion use is not allowed on any Residential plan. Setup details for cars are on Mini for car.
Which plan covers lakes, the coast and Ocean Mode?
All Roam plans cover inland waterways and marinas in your home country, including in-motion use on lakes and rivers. A pontoon on Lake of the Ozarks is covered on any tier.
The coast is different. On Roam you can use coastal waters for 5 days in a row, or 60 days in total in any 12 months. Past 12 nautical miles you need Ocean Mode, which is only on Roam Unlimited and costs $6/GB in the US on top of the $175/mo plan. Once Ocean Mode is on, Starlink bills per GB for all data you use, wherever you use it, until you switch it off, so turn it off when you’re back at the dock. A long weekend of fishing off the Outer Banks fits the coastal rule, a straight week doesn’t; regular offshore runs mean Unlimited plus Ocean Mode. More on Mini for boats.
What if you already have Starlink at home?
Starlink says the Mini works with Roam and Priority plans in most countries, and Residential plans are not supported on the Mini except in limited regions. But Starlink has two offers for home customers. Starlink offers Residential Max customers a Mini on rental, free of any monthly fee, plus 50% off eligible Roam plans while they keep Max. Its help center also says that, where offered with Residential 100 Mbps or 200 Mbps, the Mini Kit for Travel comes with 20% off eligible Roam plans. That one is in the help center only, so confirm it at checkout. If you’re setting up Starlink at home too, compare these before you buy a Mini outright.
What these plans don’t promise
- Speed: Starlink expects 65–260 Mbps down and 15–35 Mbps up on Roam plans. They’re expectations, not a promise. On a congested network, Starlink says Roam customers are likelier to see slowdowns than Residential Max customers.
- Data caps are hard. Hit 100 GB or 300 GB and you drop to about 500 Kbps until the next cycle, unless you upgrade.
- Trees, canyon walls and buildings block the signal on every plan. A bigger plan doesn’t fix a bad campsite.
- Prices are Starlink’s current US list. Starlink can change them. Tax is extra, and a one-time demand surcharge can apply in some busy areas when you order or activate; whether it does turns on your address and the plan you pick.
Skip the Mini, or wait, if…
- you need data for a single road trip or one summer: a monthly plan you’ll drop in weeks isn’t what a referral is for
- you’d keep the Mini paused in Standby most of the year as home backup: paused months don’t count toward the referral
- you go offshore often and haven’t priced Ocean Mode per GB on top of Unlimited
- you’re buying for a company or a fleet of trucks: Starlink’s referral is for individuals only
- your Mini came from a store: Starlink won’t attach a referral to it now (what you can do)
Buyer questions
How much is the Starlink Mini per month?
The Mini runs on a Roam plan: Roam 100GB $55/mo, Roam 300GB $80/mo or Roam Unlimited $175/mo (US list prices before tax, checked Nov 4, 2026). The kit itself is a one-time $149 on starlink.com, or $12.41/mo for 12 months if you finance it.
Can I put the Starlink Mini on a Residential plan?
Generally no. Starlink says the Mini works with Roam and Priority plans in most countries, and Residential plans are not supported on the Mini except in limited regions. Residential Max customers can get a Mini as a rental instead; see If you’ll have Starlink at home.
What happens when I use up 100GB on the Mini?
Use up the allowance on Roam 100GB or 300GB and speeds fall to roughly 500 Kbps, down and up. That covers email and messages, not video. Unused data doesn’t roll over. You can move up to 300GB or Unlimited mid-cycle.
Can I change my Starlink Mini plan anytime?
Yes. You can switch between Roam plans at any time: an upgrade can start right away or at the end of the billing cycle, and a downgrade taken immediately isn't refunded for the rest of the cycle.
Can I use the Starlink Mini while driving?
On a Roam plan, yes: Starlink allows in-motion use up to 100 mph in approved markets, and the US is one of them. The Mini must be firmly mounted with a mount made for in-motion use. In-motion use is not allowed on any Residential plan.
Which Starlink Mini plan do I need for a boat?
Any Roam plan covers lakes and rivers. Coastal waters are limited to 5 days in a row, or 60 days in total in any 12 months. Beyond 12 nautical miles you need Ocean Mode, which only Roam Unlimited offers, at $6/GB on top. Mini for boats.
