Which Roam plan, and what will year one cost?
Five taps. We suggest a plan from your trip pattern and data use, then add up the kit and twelve bills, with and without the referral credit.
Our suggestion for your trips
Roam 100GB

- 12 monthly bills
- Service credit from invoice 2, if it posts
- First year on starlink.com
- Same year with a store kit (last seen $249, no credit)
Referral link, disclosed: this button goes to starlink.com with Starlink Mini Kit USA’s referral code attached. A qualifying first-time US account gets a $100 service credit from Starlink, and the site gets the same reward. Store and reseller kits are excluded. Starlink Mini Kit USA runs independently, unconnected to SpaceX or Starlink.
Order this setup on starlink.com (referral link)New tab. Add the Mini and your plan, hold out for the “Referral Code Applied” banner, then pay in that tab.
How the picker works: our rule of thumb is about 1 GB a day for light use, 6 for streaming, 9 for a workday online and 14 for work plus streaming, times your days away, with a 15% cushion under each cap. Offshore use (beyond 12 nautical miles) points to Unlimited, because Ocean Mode is only on that plan. It assumes you keep the plan all twelve months. Prices: Starlink’s US lists, before tax. Store price: press reports from October 2026. The full plan guide.

Is the Mini cheaper at a store than on starlink.com?
Not on Nov 4, 2026, the latest check. Starlink’s US Roam list showed the Mini kit at $149, while the newest dated store reports (October 2026) had Best Buy and Home Depot at $249. Store kits also can’t earn Starlink’s referral credit. Over a first year on Roam 100GB that works out to $709 on starlink.com if the credit posts, against $909 with a store kit (our arithmetic, before tax).
| Year one on Roam 100GB | Kit | 12 Roam bills | Referral credit | Year one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| starlink.com, credit posts | $149 | $660 | −$100 | $709 |
| starlink.com, no credit | $149 | $660 | none | $809 |
| Store kit, last seen Oct 2026 | $249 | $660 | not eligible | $909 |
The credit, in five stops
When does the $100 credit show up on a Mini bill?
Starlink’s referral terms (version of Oct 7, 2026, read Nov 4, 2026) place the $100 on a qualifying new customer’s second monthly invoice. Its help center says the reward may be issued from 60 days after activation. Either way it is account credit against Roam bills, not money off the $149 kit, and the first month is paid in full. Nothing gets typed in: the code rides inside the link.

Wrong-buy check
Who shouldn’t buy a Mini this way?
Anyone who won’t keep Starlink past a trip or a season. Starlink’s referral terms, read Nov 4, 2026, expect referred customers to stay subscribed, and Starlink compares how long they stay with the national average. If one of these fits you, buy differently or wait:
Skip the Mini, or wait, if…
- you need internet for one road trip, one event or one season: renting or a phone hotspot fits a short stay better
- you want backup for home and would keep it paused in Standby most of the year: Standby months don’t count toward the referral (and Starlink offers Residential Max customers a Mini on rental, free of any monthly fee, plus 50% off eligible Roam plans while they keep Max)
- you’re buying for a business or a fleet: Starlink’s referral is for individuals only
- your Mini already came from a store: Starlink won’t attach a referral after the fact (what you can do)
Mini price questions
How much is the Starlink Mini?
$149 for the kit on starlink.com, the figure on Starlink’s US Roam order list on Nov 4, 2026. A Roam plan comes on top every month: $55/mo, $80/mo or $175/mo, before tax. Details and history: Mini price.
What does a Starlink Mini cost in the first year?
On Roam 100GB, $809 before tax: the $149 kit plus 12 × $55/mo. If Starlink’s $100 referral credit posts to your service bills, year one drops to $709 (our arithmetic). The checkout price is still $149 for the kit, and the first month is paid in full. Year one, bill by bill.
Which Roam plan should I get with the Mini?
Weekend trips with light use fit Roam 100GB ($55/mo). Regular streaming or full-time travel usually needs 300GB ($80/mo). Coastal boating, or heavy work plus streaming, points to Unlimited ($175/mo). The plan picker above does the math for your trips.
Is it cheaper to buy the Mini at Best Buy or Walmart?
Not lately. The last dated store reports (October 2026) still showed $249 against $149 on starlink.com, and store kits never qualify for Starlink’s referral credit. Prices move, so check the date: starlink.com vs stores.
Can a referral be attached after the order?
No. Starlink logs a referral only for an order placed on starlink.com through the link itself. Checkout has no spot to key in a code, so a link-less order, or a store kit, never picks one up. Already bought one?
Does the Mini need a separate router?
No. Starlink Mini has an integrated Wi-Fi router, so no separate router is needed. It runs on 25–40 W on average, from a car outlet with Starlink’s adapter, a USB-C source rated 100 W, or the wall supply in the box.
