The Starlink Mini Activation Benefit
Starlink applies it at checkout on new Mini kits but doesn’t say what it’s worth. Here is what Starlink says, what it leaves out, and the one rule that matters.
Buying note: the starlink.com buttons on this page are a referral link, so Starlink Mini Kit USA earns Starlink’s referral reward if you order through one. How the site is paid
The Activation Benefit is a checkout extra Starlink attaches to new Mini kits ordered on starlink.com in the US. What it’s worth, Starlink doesn’t say.
Per Starlink’s help center (read Nov 4, 2026), it needs a new Starlink account and an activated kit. A Mini still unactivated 7 days after delivery may have the benefit’s value billed to your card. Transferred kits are excluded, and Starlink only mentions starlink.com orders.
What Starlink says
Starlink’s help center has a short article on it. In plain terms:
- Who gets it: Starlink adds an Activation Benefit automatically at checkout to new Mini kits ordered on starlink.com in the US, and doesn't say what it's worth.
- The conditions: The benefit depends on a new Starlink account and an activated kit; leave the Mini unactivated for more than 7 days after delivery and Starlink may bill your card for the benefit's value.
- Who doesn’t: Transferred kits are not eligible for the Activation Benefit. Starlink describes the benefit only for kits bought on starlink.com, so a Mini from Best Buy, Home Depot or another store shouldn’t count on it.
That’s all Starlink says. There’s no amount, no end date and no list of what it pays for.
What Starlink doesn’t publish
| Question | What we can tell you |
|---|---|
| How much is it worth? | Starlink doesn’t publish the amount. |
| Is it already part of the $149 kit price? | Starlink doesn’t publish whether the $149 on its order list includes it. |
| Does it stack with the referral credit? | Starlink doesn’t publish whether one affects the other. |
| How long will Starlink offer it? | Starlink doesn’t publish an end date. |
We’d rather say “not published” than guess. If you see a dollar figure for it somewhere else, check whether it came from Starlink.
The one rule that matters: activate within 7 days
The practical risk is simple. If the benefit shows at checkout and the Mini then sits unopened in a closet past day 7, Starlink may bill you for whatever the benefit was worth. Three steps keep you clear of that:
Step 1: Order when you can set it up
The clock starts at delivery, not at your trip. If the Mini will sit in a box until a spring trip, order closer to the date, so you can activate within 7 days of it arriving.
Step 2: Set it up the week it arrives
Take it outside under open sky, power it up and activate service on the new account you ordered with. A driveway or a backyard is fine for this; you don’t need to be on the road.
Step 3: Check your account
Once it’s active, your service and billing start. Starlink starts billing service at the earliest of three dates: the day you activate, the 7th day after delivery, or the 30th day after shipping when no delivery date exists. So waiting doesn’t delay your first bill anyway.

How it sits next to the referral credit
They are two different things. Starlink applies the Activation Benefit at checkout on new starlink.com kits. The referral credit is $100 of account credit for a first-time customer whose starlink.com order came through a referral link and who qualifies. Starlink's referral terms credit the new customer on the second monthly service invoice. The reward doesn't reduce the kit price or the first bill: the new customer pays for the first month and activates the kit, and the credit comes later.
Both point the same way: they come only with a new account and an order on starlink.com. Neither comes with a store kit. Whether one changes the other, Starlink doesn’t publish.

What we can’t promise
- We can’t tell you the benefit’s value. Check your order page at checkout.
- Starlink hasn’t said how long it will offer the benefit.
- The 7-day window runs from delivery. Ordering long before a trip puts the benefit at risk.
- The referral credit has its own rules and is not a promise: the reward is only for people who have never been Starlink customers; existing and returning customers don't qualify.
Skip the Mini, or wait, if…
- you won’t be able to set up the Mini within 7 days of delivery: order closer to your trip instead
- you’re buying a used or transferred Mini from someone: it gets neither the Activation Benefit nor a referral credit
- you’ve had a Starlink account before: the benefit needs a new account, and so does the referral
- you need it for one trip or one season only: a referral is for people who’ll keep the service
- your Mini already came from a store (what you can do)
Buyer questions
What is the Starlink Activation Benefit?
Starlink adds an Activation Benefit automatically at checkout to new Mini kits ordered on starlink.com in the US, and doesn't say what it's worth. It needs a new Starlink account and activation of service.
How much is the Starlink Mini Activation Benefit?
Starlink doesn’t publish the amount. It doesn’t say either whether the $149 price on its order list already includes it. Starlink says it’s applied automatically at checkout, so look for it on your order page.
Is there a penalty for activating the Mini after 7 days?
Possibly. Starlink’s help center says a kit that received an Activation Benefit at checkout, but wasn’t activated within 7 days of delivery, may see the benefit’s value billed to the card on file.
Do Minis from Best Buy or Walmart get the Activation Benefit?
Starlink only describes it for starlink.com orders of new Mini kits, so a store kit shouldn’t count on it. Transferred kits are not eligible for the Activation Benefit. starlink.com vs stores.
Can I get the Activation Benefit and the referral credit together?
Starlink doesn’t publish whether one affects the other. They are separate things: the Activation Benefit is applied at checkout, while the $100 referral credit, for a qualifying customer, goes on a later service invoice (the second one, per the referral terms).
