Starlink Mini for RV and van weekends: plan and year-one cost
The short buying answer for RV and van owners: the plan, the yearly cost, and when the Mini covers the rig and when it doesn’t.
Buying note: the starlink.com buttons on this page are a referral link, so Starlink Mini Kit USA earns Starlink’s referral reward if you order through one. How the site is paid
For weekend trips in a van or small RV with one or two people, the Mini is usually enough. Full-timers and big rigs often look at Starlink’s Standard kit instead.
Starlink’s US Roam list has the Mini kit at $149 and the Standard kit at $349. Weekenders usually fit Roam 100GB at $55/mo, so a Mini year runs $809 before tax, or $709 if a first-time account’s $100 referral credit posts to the service bills (our arithmetic).

When the Mini is enough
- Weekends and short trips. Starlink calls Roam 100GB about a week of typical use, which covers most weekend getaways.
- One or two people. Email, maps, calls and an evening show fit easily. Starlink rates the built-in Wi-Fi for about 1,200 sq ft, more than a van or a small trailer.
- Small batteries and solar. At 25–40 W on average, it’s easy on a modest power setup.
- Online on the move. Roam allows in-motion use up to 100 mph in the US, if the Mini is fixed with a mount designed for it, such as the Mini Mobility Mount.
When it isn’t
Full-timers with several people streaming and working, and owners of long fifth-wheels or Class A coaches, often choose Starlink’s Standard kit, at $349 for Roam. The Mini’s router sits in the dish, so with the dish on the roof the Wi-Fi comes from outside the rig. Our advice: test the signal at the far end of a big rig before you drill a permanent mount. A general Mini vs Standard comparison is outside this site’s scope.
More on the road
Full-time RV setups and the Standard kit are outside this site’s scope. For the Mini on the road in general, see Mini for car trips and Mini for camping; for the tier, Mini plans.
What the Mini in an RV won’t do
- It won’t ride on the roof moving on its kickstand; in-motion use needs a firm mount.
- It needs open sky. Tree-lined campground sites cause dropouts.
- Past the cap, Roam 100GB and 300GB slow to about 500 Kbps: fine for messages, not for video.
Skip the Mini, or wait, if…
- you’re renting an RV for one trip, or you only travel one season a year and would keep it paused the rest: a referral is for people who keep Starlink
- it’s for an RV rental fleet or a dealership: Starlink’s referral is for individuals only
- your Mini came from a store or an RV dealer: Starlink won’t attach a referral to it now (your options)
